Sex, Drugs, and Rock & Roll of Advertising by David Guerrero

David Guerrero talks about Sex, Drugs, and Rock & Roll in Advertising. On April 23, 2015, David imparted a few words in George room, BBDO Guerrero’s main conference room.

The talk was attended by none other than BBDO employees themselves. Various groups of people from different departments came in to listen to the wise words that David shared. His talk revolved around different touch points, based on work from Andy Wilson, the Planning Head of BBDO Asia. One of the touch points talked about the importance of creativity in producing different ads. In this day and age, there is a notion that ads are either effective or creative. David has pointed out that this in fact is false. Research has shown that the more creative a campaign is, the more effective it is in reaching out to consumers.

Throughout the talk, David shared his thoughts on arousal and emotions. He pointed out that emotions drive the choices we make and how we should be able to elicit some sort of arousal and emotion in producing campaigns that people talk about. He also explained how dopamine and oxytocin affect emotions.

By the end of his talk, everyone in the room had a different outlook. He ended with a quote from Maya Angelou, “At the end of the day people won’t remember what you said or did, they will remember how you made them feel.”
